5 lessons i learned from kungfu hustle movie
  1. Not quitting even after you are beaten to pulp.
  2. Staying low-key is a good way to avoid / attract any troubles.
  3. Have a goal even if you are at the absolute bottom of the social ladder.
  4. Try to connect with people in high-level positions.
  5. Staying true to your own values: you cannot keep lying to yourself for long.

Few years ago, while casually browsing YouTube is when I found some short clips of the movie Kung Fu Hustle.

That is how I learned about this classic martial arts movie. And i liked what I saw.

Then ended up watching the movie in full.

Now I forgot most of the fine details of the movie now. But I can still remember all important events and the overall structure of the movie.

Not quitting even after you are beaten to pulp:

Today I was thinking about the scene where the main character got beaten to pulp by the bald guy, and still kept fighting back, using that single finger he could barely move.

Now that is as a Man of Focus, Commitment and Sheer F*ki*ng Will.

But the main character who was kind of anti-hero till that moment decided to beat the bald guy just out of impulse right?

He had some respect for the couple, and did not want them get killed, and decided to take action, but that is not the point.

Have a goal even if you are at the absolute bottom of the social ladder:

Throughout the movie, the main character hated himself for being at the bottom of society, basically a loser, and was not happy.

He wanted to be someone who is important, powerful and respected. He kept trying. His ways of moving forward were stupid, cruel and mean. But he still kept going.

And this scene is perfect depiction to that attitude of not quitting once the goal is set, no matter what.

Try to connect with people in high-level positions.

Hero of this movie is technically not a social climber, but his ability to make enemies with people of power worked great in his case.

One of the easiest ways to grow powerful is to get in touch with people in high-level positions.

Staying true to your own values: you cannot keep lying to yourself for long.

Two incidents in the ‘heroes’ childhood impacted him to very high degree. The humiliation he faced made him to turn a blind eye to his own values.

That is how he started lying to himself until that moment. And this changed the moment he decided to help the couple.

Staying low-key is a good but always be prepared

The couple and other 3 kung fu masters were hiding their identity and living a low-key life. It worked for them until a loser started all this troubles.

Staying low but at the same time prepared is a good way to avoid and attract any troubles.
